The USAT Florida Regional Youth Triathlon Championships were held Saturday morning for children ages 6 thru 15. Over 260 youth toed the starting line. The open-water swim in crystal clear Lake Jackson was fantastic as parents/friends were able to watch the entire swim portion of the triathlon from City Pier Beach.
Adult athletes arriving Saturday were treated to what has quickly become an event in and of itself … Packet Pickup! The Heartland Triathlon is an event hosted by Triathletes with a focused purpose to create a 1st class experience for all participants and guests. As such, athletes received goodie bags jam packed with practical, useable products without having to open their wallets! Energy and excitement were the highlights Father’s Day morning as first-timers and World Champions ranging from ages 15 to 87 raced along side one another! All were greeted with the trademark refreshing, ice-cold Heartland Triathlon race towel at the finish line.
While the food and beverage spread were on par with the best in the sport, one athlete used the phrase ‘ridiculously unbelievable’ to describe this year’s awards. All award winners were treated to Coffee and Pie as Brewster’s Coffee house provided custom mugs and a pound of their best ‘reserve’ fresh ground coffee. Over 350 pies from The Village Inn, home of ‘The best pie in America’, were also awarded!
